Waimano Falls Hiking Information

Relaxing at Waimano Falls

Waimano Falls is one of the most enjoyable hikes on the island. From the wonderful smells of the eucalyptus trees to the amazing tranquil waterfalls, this quick hike can provide something for most ages. You can rope swing, cliff jump and relax in the three pools that this amazing area offers.

Waimano Falls is located in Waipahu on Komo Mai Dr. Get on the H-1 freeway and head west (Ewa bound). As you reach the Middle St. merge stay right and take the H201. As you come over the hill and can see the stadium, stay to the right and rejoin H-1. Continue on H-1 and take exit 10 to Moanalua Rd. Continue to the third stoplight and take a right on Waimano Home Rd. Go three more traffic lights and take a left on Komo Mai Dr. The road will twist and wind up the hill passing Pacific Palisades. You will reach the end of Komo Mai Dr. where the trail head begins. Keep an eye out where the no parking signs are posted.

Trailhead

At the end of Komo Mai Dr. there is a opening in the fence next to the large gate where you can enter. There are information signs to your right as you begin the trail. Follow the wide gravel path along the Mãnana trail taking in the smells of the potent eucalyptus trees.

NOTE: Geocaches are all around this area! If you happen to have a GPS device along be sure to check them out! Not sure what geocaching is? www.geocaching.com

You will pass under a electric power line tower and pass a large water tank on the right. When you reach a larger open root filled area keep to your left as you descend. When the trail reaches a larger root staircase keep right along the small trail. You will soon come upon a small sign for Waimano Falls. There is a larger sign about 15 feet up the hill that shows the Mãnana continuing for 5 miles. Go right. Descend “Cardiac Hill” and continue on the trail 0.5 miles until you reach the Falls.

Cliff Jumping at Waimano

Waimano Falls moderate rating is based on the 750 foot elevation gain and could be tricky to do with children. Heading down is easy but on the return trip they call it “Cardiac Hill” for a reason. The rooty terrain makes you constantly watch your footing. The trail is about 90% shaded by the tree cover so the sun wont be too taxing. Mosquitoes can get bad on this trail, we recommend bringing some bug spray.
